Local Ad Estimates on the Upswing
By Bill Day | December 12, 2007
In a study released last Friday, Borrell Associates estimates that local online advertising is growing at an increasing clip. The study suggests that local online advertising will increase to nearly $13 billion by the end of next year, which is a substantial jump from previous forecasts. You can read more about the report here: http://www.clickz.com/showPage.html?page=3627828.
I think this is the first in a number of upward revisions for forecasted local online growth. Note that even one year from now most small local offline advertisers will likely still not be advertising online. Heck, many won’t even yet have a Web site (and many may never need one). The progression of local merchants from offline to online advertising will be a multi-year event that will be compounded by merchants increasing their ad budgets once they discover the efficacy of the online model.
Hang on everyone, we’re in for quite a ride!
